Worm had a major dilemma to work through. He felt that his integrity was at stake. How many seeds should he deliver before his escape? Many would not give his ‘predicament’ a second thought. If he were to talk to crow, for example, crow would say, ” So what’s the problem? Escape at any time you feel like it! Survival has no morals.”
But worm was not like crow at all. He had promised robin to bring seeds if she released him, and he was determined to deliver on his promise. On the other hand, worm had no intention of becoming bird food.
Worm had already determined that he would deliver at least one more sunflower seed. Three seemed like a sacred number and perhaps a good omen to quit deliveries and make his escape. Somehow worm was not satisfied. He needed a better story for his conscience to let him off the hook.
