The glow emanating from worm had now intensified to a cherry red. Even Vole had to shield her eyes. Crow and Robin had instinctively backed up a few steps from the Vole tunnel's entrance. Worm was too caught up in his own speech to notice the increasing intensity.
His inner experience was of total inspiration. The fervor of inspired thoughts matched the intensity of his glow. "Friends, .... yes, I consider you all my friends; I know from my brief time on this earth that survival of the fittest is the rule. But, I have seen a new day!"
Crow fidgeted nervously, standing on one foot, then the other. He stifled an anxious laugh, thinking that Worm had totally lost it. He would have dismissed Worm as demented, except for the glow; he just could not explain away the glow.
"I have seen a day, and it is coming soon, when all will have enough to eat without violence or hunting or being hunted"
"Now he has lost it!" thought Crow.
Robin and Vole both got swept up in the vision; perhaps it was easier for them as females.
